(G)time's were tough back in '35, that's (F)me an uncle joe just tryin'd survive on a cot(C)ton farm, in a great
dep(G)ression.

(G)and if it looks like we were scared to death, 
like a cou(F)ple of kids just tryin to save each ot(C)her, 
you should have seen it in co(G)lor

(G)and this one here was taken over sea's in the mid(F)dle of hell in 1943, 
in the win(C)ter time, you can almost see my (G)breath
that was my tailgunner ole Johnny McGee, he was a high(F) school teacher from new orleans 
and he had (C)my back right throught the day we (G)left 

(G)and if it looks like we were scared to death,

this is me(F) and grandma in the summer sun
(C)all dressed up 
on the day we said our (G)vows
you can tell it here but it was hot that june 
and her ro(F)se was red and her eyes were blue 
and just lo(C)ok at that smile
I was so (G)proud
