This Road I Know chords by Bryan Zach

Bryan Zach Chords

[Intro]
| Fadd9 | C | G | Am |
| Fmaj7 | C | G |
This a poem I wrote called "This Road I Know"

[Verse]
F C G Am
There's this flash I get often, a fever dream or a vision of sorts
           F C G Am
Most times late at night and I haven't found out why, but I know exactly why
                        F C
I'm on this road, and I hear gravel underneath me, and I feel it too
                         G Am
And I don't know where I am, but I know exactly where I am
F C G Am
It's dark, it's really dark and the car is warm, but somehow I can feel how cold the night is
                       F C G Am
I don't know where the road leads, but I know exactly where it ends
                F C G Am
You see, I keep driving, and all I see for the longest while is my headlights for an eternity, it seems
F C G Am
And everything is desolate and empty and nothing and hopeless
                F C G Am
I'm lost, but I know where I'm going, I'm safe, I'm warm, I'm driving and I see this small light
                   F C G Am
A dim one, growing brighter and bigger and closer and stronger and the closer I get, the more I see
  F C G
I make out a house with light strewn across it, a porch, some cars
             Am F
Some frosted windshields that hadn't been touched for hours
C G Am
I hear a song, and it's faint, I can't make out the name, but I know every word
          F C G Am
I feel my feet first, and it's cold and they're crunching, and it's the sound of driveways
             F C
And the wind takes my breath with it
                           G Am
And then I walk up to this door and I knock, even though I feel I don't have to
F C
And I don't know where I am, but I know exactly where I am
G Am F
And this crack of light widens on this porch underneath me as this door opens
C G
And this brown-haired girl with the brightest smile
Am F C G
I don't know who she is, but I know her so well and behind her, the warmest home I'd ever seen
     Am F C G
It's orange and comfortable, there's fire and it's bulb-lit
    Am
She says
                F C G
"Where have you been? We've been waiting on you all night, we've missed you"
    Am F
She says through the kindest smirk I'd seen in so long
                C G Am
Then she tapers off the sentence with the, with the peaceful sound that a lady makes
                   F C
She grabs me on my forearms, pulls softly into the dining room
G Am
There's people and they're happy and they're content for one
F C
I don't know who they are, but I know exactly who they are
               G Am
And we're all standing and I'm laughing at a joke I'll never hear again
                     F C
I don't know where I am but I know exactly where I am
                                       G Am
And then she tucks her head between my collar as a friend
                         F
Between my collar and my jaw, and there's no weight at all
C G
And I don't know where I am, but there's no weight at all
     Am F
It's laughter and grins and no tomorrow to win
                                   C G
And I don't know where I am, but I know exactly where I am

[Outro]
Am
I don't know where I am, but I know exactly where I am

How to play "This Road I Know" by Bryan Zach on guitar.

"This Road I Know" is a deeply emotive song that unfolds like a narrative poem set to
music, using a reflective and evocative chord progression to paint its vivid imagery.
The chords used in the song are Fadd9, C, G, Am, and Fmaj7, creating an atmospheric
backdrop that complements its introspective lyrics.

[Intro and Verse Chord Progression]
The song begins with an intro that sets the reflective tone:

    | Fadd9 | C | G | Am |
    | Fmaj7 | C | G |

These chords flow into the verse, continuing the narrative:

    F C G Am
There's this flash I get often, a fever dream or a vision of sorts

The progression follows through the verses, supporting the storytelling nature of the
song with its rich, resonant sound.

[Strumming Pattern]
For this song, a gentle strumming pattern is recommended to match the contemplative
mood:

    Down, down-up, up-down-up

This pattern allows for a soft dynamic, letting the lyrics and chords breathe and
resonate deeply.

[Song Dynamics]
Dynamic control is crucial in "This Road I Know". The verses should be played with
a sense of introspection, drawing the listener into the narrative journey. The dynamics
should ebb and flow with the storytelling, creating a sense of movement and progression
through the song's emotional landscape.

Lyrics Meaning:
"This Road I Know" takes the listener on a poignant journey through memory, dreams, and
a longing for connection. The lyrics weave a tapestry of imagery that evokes feelings of
nostalgia, loss, and a yearning for a sense of belonging. The narrative speaks to the
universal human experience of searching for meaning and comfort in the familiar, even
within the realms of our dreams. The song's vivid descriptions and reflective mood invite
listeners to ponder their own memories and the roads they know, suggesting that
sometimes, the places and people we seek are not just in our physical journeys but also
in the depths of our hearts and minds.
